The Inspiration Behind PTStrapZ

Innovation Driven by Real Need

The story of PT Strapz begins in the heart of physical therapy – a world where time is scarce, and the demand for effective treatment is high. As a dedicated clinician working in this challenging environment, I witnessed firsthand the struggle to balance patient care with the constraints of a busy clinic. One common hurdle stood out: the treatment of scar tissue following surgery.

Scar tissue, a natural aftermath of surgery, can significantly limit motion, causing prolonged and painful patient recovery. This limitation impacts their ability to move and adds to the challenges faced by therapists like us, who strive to provide comprehensive care within limited time frames.

Recognizing the need for a solution that could both enhance clinical efficiency and empower patients, PT Strapz was conceived. This adhesive innovation is designed for dual utility: it allows therapists to provide more effective scar manipulation in the clinic without adding to their already packed schedules. Simultaneously, it offers patients a proactive tool for their recovery, enabling them to continue scar mobilization exercises at home.

PT Strapz is more than a product; it’s a response to a widespread need in our community – the need for a method that augments therapy effectiveness while respecting the time constraints of both clinicians and patients. It represents a shift towards more autonomous, yet comprehensive patient care, underlining our commitment to improving recovery outcomes in physical therapy.

A Comprehensive Guide to Bunion Treatment

importance of PT StrapZ in bunion treatment

Understanding the importance of PT StrapZ in bunion treatment, we present a step-by-step guide to applying non-elastic adhesive tape for mild to moderate hallux valgus. For optimal results, it’s crucial to combine PT StrapZ with other conservative treatments like physical therapy, chiropractic care, exercises, orthotics, and footwear modifications. Before starting any taping protocol, it’s essential to consult a medical professional, such as a podiatrist or physical therapist, who can provide personalized guidance and ensure the technique aligns with your specific condition.

Here’s a general step-by-step guide for applying PT StrapZ to bunions:

Materials Needed:

  • PT StrapZ
  • Rubbing Alcohol

Procedure:

Step 1: Preparation

  • Ensure your foot is clean and dry.
  • Thoroughly wipe down the affected area with rubbing alcohol to enhance adhesion and reduce skin irritation.
  • Allow sufficient time for the area to dry before applying PT StrapZ.

Step 2: First Anchor

  • Remove a single PT StrapZ from the box and tear the paper backing in the center.

Step 3: Positioning the First Anchor

  • Position the PT StrapZ along the inside edge of your foot, as illustrated in the pictures.

Step 4: Removing the Paper Backing

  • Remove the paper backing from one end of the PT StrapZ.

Step 5: Applying the Adhesive End

  • Apply the adhesive end of the PT StrapZ around your big toe.
  • Rub the adhesive end thoroughly to ensure full skin contact.

Step 6: Second Anchor

  • Remove the paper backing from the other end of the PT StrapZ.

Step 7: Adjusting the Big Toe

  • With one hand, gently move your big toe closer to its normal position without causing pain.
  • Once the toe is positioned as comfortably as possible, place the second adhesive end on the inside edge of your foot.
  • To ensure prolonged comfort, ensure that the toe is not being pulled upward or downward. It should only be moved sideways, away from the other toes.

For better adhesion, rub the adhesive end thoroughly.

Once both ends are secured, allow sufficient time for the adhesive ends to attach to the skin. Usually, 5 minutes or more would be adequate.

It’s crucial to ensure that the amount of tension applied is tolerable and doesn’t cause pain.

(Optional) Reinforcement:

Apply an additional strip of PT StrapZ in a similar manner, overlapping slightly, to reinforce the correction. These additional strips can help maintain the position of the big toe.

Checking:

Ensure the tape isn’t too tight, as this can restrict circulation. Check for any areas of discomfort or skin irritation. Move the toe and foot to verify that the taping allows for adequate movement without causing pain.

Important Considerations:

Skin Sensitivity: If you have sensitive skin, use a hypoallergenic tape or consult a healthcare professional about suitable taping materials.

Circulation: Regularly check for signs of impaired circulation, such as numbness, tingling, or discoloration.

Duration: PT StrapZ can be worn for extended periods on the feet. Its unique design allows you to wear it under socks and shoes throughout the day, at night while sleeping, or both. Wear it as much as you can tolerate. Remove it regularly to allow the skin to breathe and check for any skin irritation.

PT StrapZ is hypoallergenic and waterproof. However, we recommend removing it for bathing.

Professional Guidance: This is a general guideline. Seeking guidance from a physical therapist is highly recommended for proper assessment, personalized PT StrapZ instructions, and complimentary exercises.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the position of the big toe causes pain, it needs to be repositioned slightly less forcefully.
  • In standing, the big toe shouldn’t lift up or push down. If so, it needs to be removed, and another piece reapplied for the recommended position.

User should be able to walk with PT StrapZ in place without experiencing any pain. There might be a slight pull in the big toe joint, but it shouldn’t be painful. If it is, a new piece will need to be reapplied.

It’s important to note that PT StrapZ are not reusable.

To ensure the best results, it’s recommended to limit wearing to 6-8 hours at a time and check for any skin irritation daily.

With consistent and regular use, you should gradually notice the big toe moving closer to its normal position.
